Why Mulch is Great For Your Plants

You probably have pinestraw or bark spread out over your gardens, but did you know that you were assisting the health of your plant by doing this?  Pinestraw and bark are great for your plants for a few reasons that we will explore.

The first reason most of us spread mulch is for aesthetic reasons alone.  It really adds a finished look to your yard/garden by keeping this fresh year round.

The mulch is good for your plants, because it provides a protective layer between your plants and it’s surroundings.  Whether this prohibits weeds from growing wildly or by offering a barrier between your plant and a digging creature, this is the first line of defense for your plant.

Once your mulch has aged you will notice that it starts to break down.  This is excellent for your plants!  This provides nutrients for your plant’s health and promotes growth.

So next time you are trying to decide whether to spread or not – think about the good it will do your plants long term.
